At High Dental, we offer many options for replacing missing teeth, including dentures, bridges, and implants.
Do I need to replace missing teeth?
Missing teeth do not always need to be replaced. However, gaps between teeth can lead to abnormal tooth movement, resulting in crooked teeth and an uncomfortable bite. The main reasons for replacing missing teeth are to reestablish a healthy bite and to improve aesthetics.
What are the options for replacing teeth?
There are 3 main ways to replace teeth:
- dentures,
- dental bridges, and
- dental implants.
Dentures are plates that are worn in the mouth and taken off before sleeping. Of the above options, dentures are the most cost-effective method to replace missing teeth. However, some people may find that inserting and removing dentures a tedious process. Alternative options that are fixed in the mouth include dental bridges and implants.
A dental bridge replaces the gap of a missing tooth with an artificial tooth. This artificial tooth is attached to your natural teeth via crowns. This means that your natural teeth must be prepared for crowning.
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is inserted into the jaw bone. Unlike bridges, they do not rely on natural teeth for support and therefore, protect natural teeth from undergoing excessive procedures. However, implants require adequate bone volume. If there is insufficient bone in the area, bone grafting may be necessary. Please see dental implants for more information.
To prolong their longevity, all prostheses require thorough at-home care and regular dental attendance for cleaning and monitoring.
